I am directed to refer to the letter quoted above, forwarding, inter alia, Macao Opium Returns, and to request that, with the permission of His Majesty's Secretary of State for India, enquiries may be made, through the Foreign Office, as to the details of the

5 chests of Indian Opium stated to have been confiscated by the Macao Authorities and the result of the enquiries communicated to the Government of India.
